artist information " Although I am fascinated with colour and light, my primary influence is people - their feelings, character and perspectives. Often the viewer will make a connection with these emotions - and instantly fall in love with the painting. This is my inspiration" At 24, this young artist has a wealth of experience, enjoying sell-out success from an early age. Having studied in Auckland and lived in Tauranga and Wellington, Hayley has exhibited professionally since 1995. Already with two years full-time painting under her belt, Hayley Brown is paving the way for wide recognition in the world of art. Her first solo exhibition, at the age of 19, was not only a sell-out success but saw her labelled "up and coming." It also got Hayley noticed by a number of galleries throughout the country and since then she has exhibited her paintings extensively, with works hung by top galleries in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Tauranga Working as an Art and Framing consultant early in her painting career saw Hayley build an expansive technical knowledge of art materials. This knowledge and has helped keep her work to a high standard while experimenting and developing her own techniques. Characterised by sophisticated use of layered colour, her style is contemporary, with a twist of classic through rich light, colour and colours and style. Hayley's primary passion is people - her paintings depicting personality and form. She has the ability to not just capture the likeness or occasion in a contemporary way but also illustrate the underlying emotions that make up human psyche. Whether it is two women gossiping over a cup of coffee or glass of wine, a provocative nude, or a sea of 'suits' on Lambton Quay, Hayley captures the essence of modern life. From glamour to meloncholy the it is the dynamic aesthetics and a shining sense of character bring a unique appeal to each painting. More recently Hayley has been experimenting and with abstraction and new materials, layering paint, texture, and glass. A new maturity and an awareness of nature entered her work, as she places people with (and within) elemental influences such as earth, rock and water. Late 2001 saw the release of a series of six high quality prints taken from various works completed in the past three years. The prints are available in galleries throughout New Zealand, and internationally. To purchase prints contact www.harrisonsgallery.co.nz
